Based on her observations of shadows in the earth and shadows on the ground, the artist spent months experimenting with a method to express objects in two dimensions on canvas. In this way, the chosen subject transforms into an image of itself. This is particularly true with living objects as well as those that are likely to perish, such as fruit or humans. Alexa Meade's work is ephemeral and the image is what is left. Trompe-l'oeil art is created through the combination of two methods of painting and photographing. It creates an unflattened and two-dimensional picture. Meade sometimes incorporates painted models into the environment around them. It allows them to engage with the environment she has created. In this way, she has dissolved the boundaries between painting, photography and the performance.
